  • Francesco Tristano will release a new album on Deutsche Grammophon in September called Long Walk. The album focuses on two of Tristano's most important influences: Johann Sebastian Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude. When Bach was 20 years old, he walked hundreds of kilometers to meet Buxtehude, an organ player at the forefront of the early Baroque movement. Though he planned to stay only a few weeks, Bach stayed and learned from Buxtehude for months, an experience that had a big impact on his development as an artist. The Long Walk shows Tristano paying homage to both artists through performances of their work, plus two of his own original compositions that borrow elements of the Baroque tradition. The album was recorded at Kyoto Concert Hall in Japan, with Tristano playing on a Yamaha CFX concert grand, captured by 12 mics "of differing tonal characteristics." Tracklist 01.
