  • Kenny Dixon Jr., AKA Moodymann, will make a rare appearance in Australia this April to play shows in Sydney and Melbourne over the Easter weekend. With numerous classic releases on Peacefrog Records and Carl Craig's Planet E label, not to mention his own KDJ imprint, Moodymann established himself throughout the '90s with a sound that draws on all of his home town influences. His limited vinyl releases have become highly collectible, and his public appearances outside of Detroit have been, particularly until recent years, equally rare for an artist of his stature. Last month, Dixon Jr. posted a rather cryptic promo video indicating that a new Moodymann LP is scheduled for release in May. This will only be the Detroit artist's third visit to Australia in his career, and it will be a short stay at that. His first stop will be in Sydney on April 5th, the night before Good Friday, down at The Spice Cellar. Support will be provided by locals Simon Caldwell, Murat Kilic, James Taylor (AU) and Slow-Blow when doors open at 10:00 PM. The Melbourne show will be held at Brown Alley on Easter Sunday, April 8th, where Moodymann will be joined by Desolat co-founder Martin Buttrich as well as eclectic German electronic artist Roman Flügel, who will be making his Australian debut. The party kicks off at 4:00 PM. Tickets to the Sydney show are available here on RA.
