  • A new Leeds space dedicated to electronic music will open on the city's Park Cross Street later this month. The Garage, you'll be unsurprised to learn, is a garage space under an office block in Leeds city centre. The space comprises a compact dance floor and bar, with enough room for 300 patrons. Thursday through Saturday it will operate as a record shop, run principally by Back To Basics' Tristan da Cunha, who was in charge of the city's erstwhile Play record outlet. Illusion Recordings are scheduled to stage the maiden event at The Garage on Saturday 31st March. Headlining the party is prolific Dutch house producer Gert-Jan Bijl, who is most widely known as 4 Lux Records boss Gerd. Gerd recently scored something of a hit under the name NY Stomp for Illusion with the release of the Can You Feel It EP, which came out in January and has already been repressed twice. Up-and-coming Italian producer Nicholas, who turned in a remix on said release, is the other international guest. Illusion's Tom Craven and James Cotterill will also be getting involved on the night, along with local selector Jonny Wren. As with most parties at The Garage, the Illusion Recordings opening party will be afforded an 8:00 AM closing time. Details of the next night at The Garage have also been announced. On Thursday 5th April (the evening before Good Friday) Panorama Bar's Steffi and PBR streetgang headline a joint venture between Amusement, Lowbrow and Asylum. Tickets for the opening party and the Easter event at The Garage are both available to purchase via RA Tickets.
