  • '90s techno duo Porter Ricks will re-release their first album, Biokinetics, in February on Type Records. Porter Ricks is the German duo of Andy Mellwig and Thomas Köner. Köner is a sound engineer with a background in film, who early in his career began focussing on "sound colour" instead of rhythm or melody. Mellwig is a mastering engineer at the esteemed Berlin studio Dubplates & Mastering, with scattered releases on labels like Mille Plateaux and Klang Electronik. Together they produced an atmospheric style of techno, often with an underwater aesthetic that's exemplified by song names like "Port Of Call" or "Nautical Dub (Tidal Mix)." Biokinetics originally came out in 1998, and combined original productions with most of the tracks from Porter Ricks' first three EPs, which had come out two years earlier on the Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction. The new reissue on Type is the same as the original but with new artwork. It will be available in a run of 700 vinyl copies, with a CD release to follow sometime in 2012. Tracklist 01. Port Gentil 02. Nautical Dub 03. Biokinetics 1 04. Biokinetics 2 05. Port Of Call 06. Port Of Nuba 07. Nautical Nuba 08. Nautical Zone Type Records will release Biokinetics on February 14th, 2012.
