  • London party WetYourSelf! will celebrate its fifth birthday early next month. WetYourSelf! started out at Aquarium in East London, holding down parties there for two years before moving on to host Sundays at fabric as of February 2009. Their initial party at the venue featured Miss Kittin, who's become something of a WYS! favourite, playing at their third birthday and now again for their fifth. The French DJ and producer, who should be expected to push her usual brand of electro-tinged house and techno, will be supported by the usual cast of residents: Cormac, Jacob Husley and Peter Pixzel. We caught up with those three over email this week to see how WYS! is doing these days:
How did you guys first land your residency at fabric? Does it ever feel strange to be putting on parties there? We started WYS! in the depths of Shoreditch at Aquarium Club in Old Street back in 2007. We had a lot of fun there. We attracted a fun and very diverse crowd. The party was unique in that it was on a Sunday night. I guess fabric picked upon that and were attracted to potentially working with us so they got in contact. After a year of chatting back and forth, we all came to the conclusion that WYS! at fabric was something we could all see great potential in. As for how it feels I can only say it feels pretty magic! Each and every week is really special. Everyone at fabric is very passionate about what they do, and that creates a very supportive and unique home for our party. Miss Kittin seems to be a birthday tradition for you guys. How did that come together? Yes it could seem that way. Miss Kittin is an artist close to our hearts at WYS! She first played for us in 2007, a date which has become somewhat legendary in clubbing talk. Since then she has become a dear friend and someone we love dearly. Musically she unites our varied crowds over the years. Each and every Kittin set has been superb, she's very timeless. We are always excited to play with her. This year, alongside the party, we have collaborated with Kittin who has designed a limited edition WYS! 5th birthday T-shirt, All proceeds from which will go to Wateraid, the charity we support. If you had to pick one favourite moment from the past five years of WetYourSelf, what would it be? "Every week at WetYourSelf feels like NYE"—someone just posted this on our Facebook. Hmmmmm… Very hard question and funnily enough not one that someone asks us very often. There are many, that Kittin date at Aquarium, the first Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann back-to-back in 2009, our move to fabric. We have a lot of fun every night that we play together, and we are still blown away by the 1000 + ravers giving it 100% each and every week at the club. The question begs to be asked... why call the party WetYourSelf? Ah well, that in part traces back to Aquarium. The club had a jacuzzi. WetYourSelf! also reflects that our party is about being fun. We wanted to embrace all the great things about the London scene but put the music first.
Tickets for WetYourSelf!'s fifth birthday are available to purchase from RA Tickets.
