  • Whilst a number of internationals will be up in Sydney when the clock strikes midnight this New Year's Eve, Melbourne will be treated to a flock of techno, house and disco acts migrating down for some large scale parties on New Year's Day. You've still got a couple of options if you want to be out and about on the 31st. Unstable's free NYE party kicks off from 2:00 PM at Loop with an extensive lineup of local DJs on the techno, progressive and psy-trance tip over two rooms, including the brand's director Loki and Technoir co-founder Ranjit Nijjer. Two large screens with gaming consoles set up should ensure a leisurely transition into 2012. Also boasting a substantial collection of local DJs is Hidden at Word Bar. Jamie Stevens, an original member of celebrated Australian electronic act Infusion, heads up a long night of dancing from 8:00 PM all the way through midday. If you've saved yourself for January 1st then you'll have a great deal of choice. Popular Melbourne party Animals Dancing will be temporarily shifting to recently opened venue The Bridge for a daytime event. German house head Motor City Drum Ensemble and UK disco duo 6th Borough Project will be supported by some of the city's most prominent house artists, including Tornado Wallace and Fantastic Man. Also running with the afternoon vibe just down the river is Welcome Summer, which will host an array of international and local talent. Disco heavyweight Dimitri From Paris is joined by John Dahlbäck and The Shapeshifters at Peninsula, Shed 14. The annual Summadayze festival will bring a wide variety of dance acts to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl from Midday. You can catch Grandmaster Flash, Markus Schulz, Tiga, Seth Troxler, Flying Lotus and plenty more in the green grass of the outdoor venue. Tribe NYD is gathering acts of a particularly rhythmic nature, with drum & bass veteran LTJ Bukem, British breakbeat duo Stanton Warriors and turntable experts Scratch Perverts. That's down at Brown Alley from 5:00 PM until the next morning. For more of a standard club-based event, La Di Da will be opening its doors at 10:00 PM for a night of techno, where Sci + Tec's Carlo Lio will be playing a three-hour set.
