We dive headlong into the capital's New Year raving options.
With a week to go and a multitude of options on the table, here's our a look at what's up in London on New Year's.
We feel like we say the same thing each year but it bears repeating: clubbing over the New Year is a difficult thing to get right, which makes it especially important to choose your party carefully. As is the case on any given weekend in the capital, most of the action will be in the east and south east of the city, and we start in SE1 with the party that's proving most popular among RA readers: Eastern Electrics at Coronet. You can thank the multiple London promoters involved in this one for a broad lineup that includes Laurent Garnier, Mount Kimbie and Anja Schneider (sadly, Tensnake has had to cancel this and other upcoming appearances due to medical issues). Another longtime London favourite, Secretsundaze, will be utilizing a new space, Troxy, near Limehouse station. They've opted for a mixture house and bass (Man Make Music are also in on this one), with Âme (live), Levon Vincent, Kyle Hall, Braiden and George FitzGerald all confirmed.
Two of London's more recent success stories—Krankbrother and Half Baked—will be on an "east London TBA" tip, although in the case of the former the venue is intriguingly described as a "giant inflatable disco bubble." Hannah Holland and an unannounced guest are on the bill for that one. Half Baked, meanwhile, will be pushing their usual European tech house sound with sets from Christian Burkhardt and Yakine.
Moving away from the straight-up house fare, Tief will bring together Doldrum's Joy Orbison and Hotflush boss Paul Rose, who will deliver a set as Scuba vs SCB. This one is happening down at Corsica Studios. Bass music and house will also mix at Electric Minds, as Appleblim makes the journey down from his Bristol base; London's Jay Shepheard will provide the 4/4 counterpoint with his live set.
Wiggle will be providing the evening's best views of the midnight fireworks with their party atop Centre Point. Residents Terry Francis and Nathan Coles will be joined by D'Julz and Arnaud Le Texier. If you're out in Shoreditch, Basing House's event should be a sound intimate offering with Hot Creations/Hot Waves duo Miguel Campbell and Alex Arnout. fabric will throw their hat in the ring with their usual three-room attack. Room one features Lil' Louis, Tobi Neumann and Maya Jane Coles; Adam Beyer, Slam and Alan Fitzpatrick keep things techy in room two; and The Mole is the highlight in room three.
As for New Year's Day? Well, you'll be unsurprised to learn there's a ton of parties to chose from if you're still up for it, or have sidestepped the crush of NYE. Hot Natured are hosting their first ever London showcase at an unannounced eastern location. Label bosses Lee Foss and Jamie Jones will perform with Ali Love, while Art Department and Maceo Plex will further push the label's slow and floor-friendly house sound. Circo Loco are bringing Dyed Soundorom, Matthias Tanzmann, Davide Squillace and Visionquest members Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves to their carnival at Proud2, while Nofitstate lean on Julio Bashmore and Move D to provide their soundtrack.
Obviously this merely scratches the surface of what's going on across London over the two days, so for complete listings, see here for NYE and here for NYD.
