  • Poker Flat Recordings will host a label showcase at a secret warehouse spot in London on Saturday, February 25th. Though label head Steve Bug has long been one of the most active DJs out there, proper showcases from his Berlin label are few and far between. That looks set to change with the upcoming party in London, which Bug says will be the first in a new international series of Poker Flat parties. He'll be joined on the night by Martin Landsky, one of the label's closest artists, as well as past contributors Burnski and Daniel Dexter. Some of Poker Flat's friends at Ovum are billed as well, namely label head Josh Wink and up-and-comer MANIK. Chatting via email this week, Bug gave us some inside perspective on the party:
If I'm not mistaken, this is Poker Flat's first big showcase in London since 2007. Why has it been so long? As far as I remember the last party was at Fabric, a club where I still play regularly. I don't actually know why it took us so long to do anything at all showcase-wise. I guess we didn't want to do something just to do something, we wanted to do it properly. Will this be the first event in a series? Definitely, we finally found some people to help build the events with us and that means we are ready to take over the world! Haha. No, seriously this will be the first one in a series and we can hopefully spread the events a little further over the next few years. I mean we always had people asking us for showcases, but it was kinda difficult for us to handle the requests since our artists are spread over various agencies. We're not one of those labels that has everything in one hand—we tried, but it didn't work out for us. It's not easy to take care of all the artists 100% all the time. I prefer focusing on running the label and doing the events instead of being in charge of the artists' weekly schedule. What does Poker Flat have in the pipeline for 2012? Any artists or releases you're particularly excited about? We have so much coming up that I'm really looking forward to. First of all we have the second edition of the Forward To The Past coming out in December, this time it's all about the acid! Then there is a new label compilation called Gunslingers and Greenhorns with a lot of new exclusive material and a bonus mix by me due out in February, followed by an artist album by TJ Kong and Modular K, which is very cool. Before the summer there should be an Alex Niggemann album coming out and finally in September a new Steve Bug album. What were your highlights from 2011? A few weeks back I played for the first time in China. The party was at Lantern and it was incredible, somehow it had a '90s feeling to it, meaning the energy, the vibe, everything felt so fresh, people were starving to party their asses off, it was awesome. Apart from this I'm sure there had been loads of other great parties and things going on in 2011, but there were just too many to remember unfortunately.
