We take a look at what's on this New Year's in Sydney.
New Year's in Sydney is always an extravagant affair, with plenty of top DJs from around the globe gathering in the harbour city each year. As usual there is a wide variety of music to hear all over town, with techno, disco, drum & bass, deep house and electro all generously represented.
If you're looking to avoid the mayhem of the CBD as the clock strikes midnight, Sydney institution Mad Racket will be hosting a party at their regular spot, the Marrickville Recreation Centre. Scotish house and disco duo 6th Borough Project will play their first ever Australian show with hosts Simon Caldwell and Ken Cloud manning the decks in support. Nearby in Alexandria, New Zealand producer Emerson Todd will bring his brand of jacking house to Sun Studios for Summer Opener NYE. Ft Mode and Eoin Brosnan will be amongst the support acts playing over two rooms.
Heading city-bound, Chinese Laundry will host drum & bass veteran LTJ Bukem and Dutch electro house duo Mightyfools. Across the club's five dancing areas will be more than twenty local DJs, including The Immigrant and Jeff Drake. Up the road on the rooftop of Sweeney's Hotel, Bare Essentials will be happening from 3:00 PM right up until 6:00 AM with a surprise international artist and a collection of the party's past guests, such as Garry Todd and Claire Morgan. Down on Sydney Harbour, FACT will host Sci + Tec artist Carlo Lio and Spanish DJs Javi Sampol and Hugo Marti at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
There's plenty on offer on January 1st too. For those who want to keep the night going, Spice Afloat embarks on its harbour excursion at 3:30 AM with Instruments of Rapture boss The Revenge and German house artist Motor City Drum Ensemble providing the soundtrack to the first morning of the year. From midday, Seth Troxler, Radio Slave, Jef K and Eddie Richards head up the house-heavy lineup at The Greenwood Hotel for the first of three Space Ibiza events to be held over the summer.
Now in its sixth year, Field Day 2012 has an eclectic festival lineup with electro house stars Justice premiering their new live routine. Moby, Tiga, Spank Rock and Busy P are amongst DJs and live acts at The Domain in the heart of the city. Sun Studios will reopen its doors less than 12 hours after the Summer Opener party ends for High Flyers Little Secret NYD party hosted by Funkdafied. Regular Australian visitors Crazy P will be back with their five piece band, with an extensive list of artists from a number of genres including seasoned Aussie hip-hop producer Katalyst and Blue Note Records' DJ Maestro.
