Gilles Peterson brings his Havana Cultura to London

- Gilles Peterson will perform with his Havana Cultura Band at Electric Brixton on November 19th. The event is only the latest episode in Peterson's ongoing involvement with artists from Havana. As part of Havana Cultura, a "global art initiative" sponsored by the rum brand Havana Club, the BBC Radio 1 DJ has traveled to the Cuban city regularly since 2009 to meet and play with local artists. The project has led to two albums so far: Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound and an upcoming collection called The Search Continues, which features material from Peterson's band as well as songs by a number of local artists. For the event next Saturday, Peterson will DJ as well as play live with the Havana Cultura Band. Other DJ sets will come from Simbad and New York veteran Louie Vega.
