  • Nottingham promoters and label Wigflex will celebrate their fifth birthday with a party at Stealth next month. As promoters, Wigflex don't pull any punches. Their lineups down at Nottingham's Stealth have brought together some of bass music's major players for almost five years now (in addition to their seeming propensity for Border Community artists), with the likes of Shackleton, Actress and Kode9 all featuring regularly. They've also held-down a residency at Manchester's Sound Control since mid-2010. Set-up in 2009, the Wigflex imprint has been steady in its approach to date, releasing a total of five 12-inches from predominantly local artists but also finding room for London's Shortstuff and Eleven Tigers, who hail from Lithuania. Previous Wigflex guests Rustie and Roman Flügel are among a typically lengthy cast who will come together on Friday 21st October for the birhtday bash. Both are riding a wave of interest due to album releases at the moment: Rustie with his forthcoming Glass Swords, and Flugel through Fatty Folders, which received the RA Recommends nod earlier this week. Blawan, whose music lit up RA for slightly different reasons this week, will also make an appearance, along with Fantastic Mr Fox, Spam Chop, Adam Curtain, Metaphi, Des Hagenasty and Spare. For those "with the minerals" (as Wigflex put it), there'll also be a free afterparty taking place in a city centre basement during Saturday morning.
