- This Sunday, Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space will celebrate a 12 years of broadcasts with a nine-hour party in Brooklyn. Beats In Space came about in 1999 when Sweeney was still a student at New York University. Since then, his diverse tastes, along with the guests he's invited to mix live on the air (ranging from Carl Craig to Lindstrom) have attracted fans around the globe, who currently tune in on Tuesday nights for the two-and-a-half hour segment. Meanwhile, Sweeney's become an in-demand touring DJ, regularly playing gigs across North America and Europe. Much like the show itself, this weekend's anniversary party leans heavily on disco and indie. Ghostly International poster boy Matthew Dear will headline, along with DFA artists Juan Maclean and Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules & Love Affair. Metro Area, Rub N Tug, DJ Nature and Blondes (playing live) round out the lineup of guests, with Sweeney also taking a turn on the decks. The setting is Beats 4 Eats, a vacant lot that Le Comptoir & Jify Shah have been using for outdoor parties. A portion of the day's profits will be donated to charity efforts to end hunger in Somolia.
