Ekoplekz and Bass Clef have a collaborative cassette in the pipeline.
Bristol producer Ekoplekz and London-based artist Bass Clef have a new collaborative album in the works under the name EkoClef.
Entitled Tapeswap, the album will be released through Magic + Dreams, a label run by Bass Clef and his associate Mr Brown (of the group Hey Colossus). It was recorded on a four-track tape using what the label describes as "the severely obsolete process of tape-swapping," which worked something like this:
"First Eko recorded a whole length of tape (about 23 minutes), using one channel only. The tape was sent to Clef who added sounds onto the second channel. Then the whole process was continued until all four channels were filled... No computer, no endless tweaking, no fighting about which take was best or who should do the guitar solo."
Though the artists limited themselves to tape, they aren't forcing their listeners to: Tapeswap will be sold on cassette, but will come with a download code for 320 KBPS mp3s or FLAC files. The album will be Ekoplekz's fourth full-length this year, after his album for Punch Drunk his live LP on Further Records and a cassette he did for Mordant Music called Memowrekz. You can get a taste of EkoClef's style in the teaser video below.
