bvdub and Andrew Thomas have curated Air Texture Vol.1, the first installment in a new series of ambient compilations.
Air Texture is the brainchild of James Healey, AKA Escape Art, a co-founder of Brooklyn label theAgriculture. Inspired by series like Kompakt's Pop Ambient, or Excursions in Ambience from the early '90s, it aims to highlight the creme de le creme of "electronic music that is not dance floor oriented" by choosing respected ambient artists to curate each compilation (one disc each). As one of the genre's most prolific contemporary artists, Brock van Wey (AKA bvdub) is a natural choice for Vol.1. Thomas is something of a heavyweight as well, having contributed to nearly every Pop Ambient collection since 2003. The release features selections both new and old, with the likes of Wolfgang Voigt and Biosphere alongside Leyland Kirby and Oneohtrix Point Never. Future editions of Air Texture will be curated by Loscil, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Deadbeat and DJ Olive.
