- The man behind Smallville's trademark sleeve designs has a collection due out next month.
At the end of August, Smallville Records will release a collection of artwork by their go-to cover artist, Stefan Marx.
Entitled The Dead Sea, the three-part collection is Marx’s first official release on Smallville, who have worked alongside long term Marx publisher, Nieves, a Swiss independent publishing house, to release this project. The Schwalmstadt born artist has been working with the Smallville shop and label since it launched a few years ago, designing record sleeves, creating posters and flyers and even painting the shop's windows. Meanwhile, he's kept busy working with Nieves on book and zine releases, as well as on various solo and group exhibitions.
The Dead Sea will be a gatefold 12-inch cover sleeve comprised of three 90 cm x 60 cm posters, including a homage to his recent band venture The Dead Sea AKA Stefan Marx, RVDS, Lawrence and Birte Löschenkohl. The composition as a whole is dedicated to a group from across the pond, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti.
Marx will discuss the inspiration to his album fold sleeve cover in a forthcoming interview on RA in connection with the Moscow leg of the RA X tour in September, for which he is designing the poster.
Smallville & Nieves will release The Dead Sea on August 29th, 2011.
