  • Kid Creole and the Coconuts will release a new album called I Wake Up Screaming this September on Strut. The record will be the group's first full-length in over a decade, following 1997's The Conquest of You. Made up of Bronx-born artist August Darnell and a trio of sultry back-up singers (the Coconuts), the group have spent decades blending traditional music from the US, Latin America, South America and the Caribbean, resulting in a style of leftfield funk that's embodied in tracks like "Stool Pigeon" and "Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy." Aesthetically inspired by pre-WWII Americana, Darnell often appears on stage in a zoot suit, and adorns his record sleeves (including I Wake Up Screaming) with references to vintage cinema. I Wake Up Screaming was recorded at Darnell's studio in Sweden, where he currently lives part time. All of the tracks are previously unreleased, and some were co-produced with Andy Butler, frontman of Hercules & Love Affair. The album will be preceded in July by a single for "I Do Believe," with remixes by Faze Action, 40 Thieves, Emperor Machine and Brennan Green. Tracklist 01. Stony and Cory 02.
