  • The next installment in RVNG Intl.'s FRKWYS series features a live performance by Ikue Mori and Julianna Barwick. Mori has led a prolific solo career for roughly 20 years, but might be best known for her role in the chaotic post-punk band DNA, who had their heyday during New York's no wave movement in the late '70s. Barwick is a more recent underground presence, with a few hazy self-released records and a recent album on Asthmatic Kitty. FRKWYS Vol.6 compiles four recordings of the duo playing at White Columns Gallery in New York in the fall of 2010. The first performance was part of an installation: the two artists sat opposite each other in a custom-built cubicle under the gaze of webcams, using their set as fodder for video projects elsewhere in the gallery. Meanwhile, a portable lathe pressed the whole thing to vinyl as it happened (watch the video below for clarification). Mori and Barwick returned to the gallery three weeks later for another take, which makes up the second two recordings on the album. FRKWYS Vol.6 will be available as a limited edition LP, packaged with a 24-page book of zine photography. A digital version will come out a week later. Tracklist 01. Dream Sequence 02. Stalactite Castle 03. Rain and Shine at the Lotus Pond 04. Rejoinder 05. Breath of Spring 06. Red Aurora RVNG Intl. will release FRKWYS Vol.6 on June 14th, 2011.
