  • The next album from Rod Modell's DeepChord project is called Hash-Bar Loops, and is due for release this July. Modell is most often compared to Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, and it isn't hard to see why: the sauntering beats, thick basslines and copious reverb in his music quickly calls to mind Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound, Maurizio and the like. He's steadily developed this sound over the years, both on his own and with Steven Hitchell (as Echospace), most notably on albums like The Coldest Season and last year's Liumin. Hash-Bar Loops is Modell's first solo LP in several years, and shows him doing what he does best: drifting between fully ambient pieces and subtle dub techno tracks. According to a press release, most of the album was produced during an extended stay in Amsterdam (hence the title). It marks his debut on Soma Records, the Scottish label that's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Tracklist 01. Spirits 02. Stars 03. Sofitel 04. Merlot 05. Tangier 06. Electromagnetic 07.
