  • This May, Kate Simko will release an album called Lights Out through Berlin label Hello? Repeat. Though Simko spends a great deal of her time DJing and playing live in clubs, Lights Out reportedly shows a different side of her craft. "I looked at the album as an art project," she says, "an installation of ten pieces that together form their own unique being." To accompany the album, she's teamed up with fellow Northwestern alumnus Jeffrey Weeter to create a cinematic live act called "Luster," with a world tour currently in the works. Lights Out will be Simko's first solo album, but not her first full-length: in 2003 she debuted with Shapes of Summer, an album she produced with Andres Bucci under the name Detalles. She also composed the original score for The Atom Smashers, a documentary about the US's most powerful particle accelerator. That soundtrack came out on Ghostly International, whose sister label Spectral Sound has given Simko steady support over the past few years. The new album will be her debut on Hello? Repeat, the German label run by Daze Maxim and Jan Kruger. You can catch Simko performing "Luster" next month in room one of fabric. Tickets to that event are available here on RA. Tracklist 01.
