  • DJ Rupture and Matt Shadetek will bring their Dutty Artz label to The Cove in Williamsburg for a free party tomorrow night. Real name Jace Clayton, DJ Rupture is best known for his intense and highly multicultural mixes, namely 2008's Uproot and 2001's Gold Teeth Theif. He founded Dutty Arts a few years ago with fellow New Yorker Shadatek as a platform for what the pair call "tropical bass music." The showcase on Friday will feature the two founders alongside a crew of artists from label's roster, namely Geko Jones and Chief Boima, both of whom share Rupture's melting pot approach to mixing dub, house, dancehall, and breakbeat. The party is hosted by The Cove, a new venue booked by Detroit-native Lauren Flax. Flax, who started DJing raves in the late 90s, has recently attracted attention as one half of the dark electronic duo CREEP. New York Tropics: The Return of the Sloth will start up around 10:00 and go until late. Entry is free all night long.
