  • Freude Am Tanzen will reach their 50th release this spring, and to mark the occasion they've put together a label compilation called 5zig (or "fünfzig," German for "fifty"). Based in the small German city of Jena, Freude am Tanzen became one of Germany's most essential minimal and house labels over the course of the last decade. Since they set up shop in 1998, they've given us records by artists like Mathias Kaden, DJ Koze, Daniel Stefanik and perhaps most famously The Wighnomy Brothers, who now DJ and producer separately as Monkey Maffia and Robag Wruhme. In typically charismatic fashion, the label reflect on their catalog in terms of soup: "So, has it been 50 instant soups, 50 recipes to cook or has it been 50 premium soups which have been released to keep you DJ's and fans healthy and well fed?" Rather than looking back on these past 50 soups, 5zig features all new creations from some of the artists closest to the label. It will be released on vinyl as well as digitally and on CD, though the latter two formats feature four extra tracks. Have a look at the cheery trailer below for an idea of what to expect:
