Hype Williams play intimate Berlin show

- Kreuzberg's Soju Bar will host a live/DJ set from the duo later this month.
- Enigmatic Berlin/London duo Hype Williams will perform at Berlin's Soju Bar on Wednesday 26th January. If you had of mentioned the name "Hype Williams" 12 months ago your thoughts likely would have turned to mega-budget '90s hip-hop videos. But since the beginning of last year a pair of low-key Berlin and London-based producers appropriated the name and have since used it as a vehicle for a brand of dizzying, sample-based electronica. The duo have amassed quite a discography over a short period of time, delivering their releases as either free mp3s, 7-inch singles, 12-inch LPs or cassettes. RA's Philip Sherburne was suitably impressed by their mosaic approach to music-making; his review of their free Dior EP should serve as a comprehensive introduction to the sound and style of the group. Kreuzberg's highly intimate Soju Bar is the venue for their upcoming gig, which is being billed as a "one time only" live and DJ performance for promoters 20 Jazz Funk Greats. Preston G Parallax and 20JFG DJ are also both set to spin.
