  • Broadcast frontwoman Trish Keenan died in the hospital earlier today due to complications with pneumonia. According to reports, Keenan contracted the H1N1 virus (better known as the swine flu) sometime before Christmas while touring in Australia, and had been on life support ever since. Rumors about her health began when someone, allegedly Keenan's sister, posted the following message on her Facebook page: "I'm sorry everyone but I have some bad news. Trish Keenan is fighting for her life in hospital. I will keep everyone informed." Earlier today, Warp Records confirmed the singer's death with the following statement:
It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care. Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time. This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace.
With six albums on Warp since 1997, Broadcast are known for their lo-fi style of electronic indie pop. Keenan's voice, at once deadpan and sultry, helped create the sound that led to their popular and critical acclaim. Our thoughts are with Keenan's family, friends and bandmates at this time.
