- The American ambient duo beef up their sound for a new album on Kranky.
New Orleans-based duo Belong will release a new album early next year, entitled Common Era.
Made up of Turk Dietrich and Michael Jones, Belong are known for their fuzzy, droning style of post-rock. Falling somewhere between My Bloody Valentine, Fennesz and Gas, their sound has been described by Pitchfork as "nerve-wracking, romantic, intense, and hardly there at all." Past records have bordered on being fully ambient, but on Common Era their music comes more into focus, with distinct vocals, guitars and drum machines that follow basic pop song structures. It will be their second full-length, following their 2006 debut album October Language, and their first for Chicago avant-rock label Kranky.
