- Ninja Tune will release the Leeds-based trio's s next album in February.
Stateless will release their second album, Matilda, in February on Ninja Tune.
Made up of five musicians based in Leeds, Stateless has a style that's particularly hard to pin down: hip-hop influenced, electronically enhanced, led by guitars and vocals. This makes them a nice fit for Ninja Tune, the innovative breaks imprint that made a comeback in 2010, landing itself in our list of the Top Labels of 2010. Matilda will be the group's second album yet, and their first release on Ninja Tune, following a run of records on !K7. In addition to the group's core trio, it was recorded with the help of Damian Taylor, a producer who's past credits include records with UNKLE and Bjork.
The band say their goal with Matilda was to make something as deeply engrossing as possible. "I wanted you to enter a world, and travel through that world, meeting different characters, and having different experiences along the way," says frontman Chris James. "I want people to do the Pink Floyd thing, and listen to it from start to finish really loud on good headphones."
