  • Further Records will release the next album by Chicago noisemaker Jamal Moss, AKA Hieroglyphic Being, entitled The Urantia Project. Moss is a longtime staple of Chicago's underground club scene. In his early career he traveled in the same circles as Ron Hardy and Steve Poindexter, playing legendary clubs like The Powerplant and heading his own party in the early '90s, Liquid Sex. He's known for his strange and often cacophonous style of house and techno, which he pushes in his own tracks and through his record label, Mathematics Recordings. An exceptionally prolific producer, Moss claims to have recorded more than 1,000 experimental compositions over the past 15 years, some of which have surfaced on his compilations, such as the aptly titled So Much Noise 2 Be Heard. The Urantia Project dips further into this archive, comprising eight pieces Moss produced back in 1996. Given his knack for left-field sounds, Moss seems like a perfect fit for Further Records, the Seattle-based imprint (and one time Label of the Month) best known for its experimental-leaning cassette albums. By freeing them of DJ-friendly obligations, past cassettes have brought out the weirder side of artists like Aybee, Lerosa and Donato Dozzy. Moss has never appeared too concerned with the dance floor, so The Urantia Project shows him right at home with his lo-fi beats and frantic melodies. As usual, the album will be released in a limited run of 100 tapes. You can stream the whole thing on Further's homepage. Tracklist 01. Adjuster 02. Stylometry 03. Daimonion 04. Fidestic 05. Havona 06. Life Carriers 07. Irreverible 08. T.U.P. Further Records will release The Urantia Project on December 20th, 2010.
