  • A new UK-based label called Vibrations will launch next month, with disco-house maestro Mark E taking care of the inaugural 12-inch. Vibrations is the brainchild of Christopher Galloway and Piers Harrison, who produce records together as Roots Unit. Harrison is also part of Soft Rocks, an outfit that cheekily describes itself as "four Brighton-based DJs and producers with a relaxed attitude to copyright law." Both projects have recently put out tracks on Permanent Vacation, Endless Flight and Lo Recordings. With Vibrations, the duo say they hope to create "a house label in the same way that On-U Sound was a reggae label," referring to the long-running English dub imprint. A few weeks ahead of their first release, we caught up with Galloway and Harrison to get the rest of the scoop:
What made you decide to start a label? Vibrations was borne of egomania and a creeping concern that we weren't losing enough money through our record buying and alcohol habits. What are some of your main inspirations? On-U Sound, Rhythm & Sound, Joe Claussell, Nu-Groove, Factory Records, Wackies, Carl Craig, Deep Space, Detroit, Chicago, Africa, Jamaica, NYC, the usual. How did you choose the name Vibrations? It sounded like a reggae label which is a massive influence for us. It also suggested positive connections and communications which are what we hope to have with the people who work with is. Your first release is from Mark E. What other artists can we expect to see on Vibrations? LHAS, Asian Project, Protect-U, Roots Unit, Afro Kazbah,Soul 223 are all in the pipeline for 2011. What can we expect from you over the next few months? Vibrations 002 will be from L.H.A.S. which will be out in January 2011, followed by Asian Project's debut release in February. We're hopefully going to release a record each month and not bankrupt ourselves in the process.
