  • London-based group Horsepower Productions will release their next album, Quest for the Sonic Bounty, next month on Tempa. Led by DJ and producer Benny Ill, Horsepower Productions are widely credited with being one of the key pioneers of dubstep; in fact, some say the term made its debut in XLR8R's 2002 cover story about the group. That said, their existence has always been a bit shaky: core members Nassis and Lev Jnr both left the group over the years, and in 2004 Horsepower Productions fell silent altogether before reappearing in 2009 with a 12-inch on Tempa (whose run-out groove etching read "back with vengeance"). Quest for Sonic Bounty shows Benny Ill working alongside Jay King, with whom he's collaborated since the outfit's resurgence last year. The record features mostly new productions, plus the group's remix of Lee Scratch Perry's "Exercising," which was previously available only on limited edition vinyl. Tracklist 01. Rain 02. Mexican Slayride 03. 22 04. Water 05. Kingstep (LP Version) 06. 18th Special 07. Damn It (Extended LP Version) 08. Lee Perry - Exercising (Horsepower Remix) 09. Poison Wine Tempa will release Quest for the Sonic Bounty on November 29th, 2010.
