- The Northern Irish techno heavyweight will release his first full-length this fall.
DJ and producer Fergie is set to release his debut album, Dynamite & Laserbeams, this fall through his own Excentric Muzik imprint.
The title of the record refers to Fergie's youth in Northern Ireland, a period defined as much by early raves as it was by the constant threat of violence. "Growing up in Northern Ireland through the troubles I saw how two communities were kept apart," he says. "That made it all the more amazing that despite the threat of bombs young people from both sides came together to get lost in the music at the raves."
Chatting via email earlier this week, Fergie described a party with Carl Cox in 1993 that made a particularly strong impression on him: "I was 14 at the time... Just before Carl was due to come on there was a bomb scare and we all had to get outside, but it didn't stop the party, someone started blasting music out from a parked car and everyone just continued dancing and blowing whistles in the street as the police tried to calm the situation. Eventually we were allowed back in and Carl Cox took to the stage and started his set... the music was amazing, it grabbed me by the balls then and still does now. Seeing that crowd just going for it in the street was unforgettable... those early raves were the place where, as a teenager, I felt most safe."
Fergie's spent much of last two years working on Dynamite & Laserbeams alongside his studio partner Dave Robertson. The record sports plenty of his trademark big room techno tracks, plus a few downtempo excursions.
