  • Berlin's long abandoned Spreepark will open its doors this weekend to host Luna Land, a party that kicks off on Saturday afternoon and ends on Sunday night. Situated in the south of former East Berlin, the erstwhile amusement park was built in the late '60s under the GDR. It operated in various forms until 2001, when it was unraveled by a combination of staggering debt and extraordinary scandal, including a botched drug smuggling operation in which $14 million of cocaine were hidden inside the park's Flying Carpet ride and shipped from Peru to Germany. Since then, Spreepark has collected dust in its original spot, with many of the rides still intact, including its iconic Ferris wheel. Luna Land will mark the first time its doors have opened in nearly a decade. The marathon party is presented by Minimoo, who gave us New York's shambolic Minitek Festival. More than 20 house and techno artists are set to perform, with Tiefschwarz, M.A.N.D.Y., Pan-Pot and Ãme leading the charge. A raft of Berlin regulars will appear as well, including Sammy Dee, Marc Schneider, Ryan Crosson and Matt John. Live performances will come from Mathew Jonson, Exercise One and Laps, half of the duo Digitaline. A bit of disco will be on offer as well, thanks to local party CommeCi CommeCa and New York's Bananamania, whose Disco Train Station will host Brett Johnson and DJ Kaos among others. The action will be spread out across three stages during the day before converging on the site's former store house after sundown.
