- A new album by the avant-pop giants is due out this fall.
This November, seminal indie-outfit Stereolab will release a new full-length on their own label, Duophonic UHF Disks.
Entitled Not Music, the album is made up songs recorded during the sessions for Chemical Chords, Stereolab's 2008 long player. According to a press release, Not Music developed out of "seventy tiny drum loops" which bandmember Tim Gane improvised over on piano and vibraphone, a method he describes as "a totally new way of doing songs for us." The record also boasts an appearance by Atlas Sound (AKA Bradford Cox, the frontman of Deerhunter), who remixes the tune "Neon Beanbag," the original version of which appeared on Chemical Chords.
Despite having a new record on deck, Stereolab are currently in the midst of a hiatus. Following a prolific and critically acclaimed career spanning back to the early '90s, the group announced last year that it would disband indefinitely to focus on various side projects. The band's founding member, singer and keyboardist Laetitia Sadier is set to release her debut solo album next month.
