  • Prolific New York house label Strictly Rhythm has tapped house producer Seamus Haji as its new head of A&R. With a multi-faceted career spanning back to the mid-'90s, Haji seems a perfect fit for the job. In addition to being a successful DJ and producer with dozens of releases to his name, Haji also has his fair share of management experience, having launched his own label, Big Love at the beginning of the last decade. He's an old hand at A&R as well, after filling the role at labels like Defected and Slip n' Slide. The appointment comes at a particularly momentous time in Strictly Rhythm's history. Just two months ago, the label finally went independent again after working as a joint venture with Defected for several years–an arrangement the UK-based label had offered as a lifeline to Strictly Rhythm following its legally and financially disastrous partnership with Warner Music in 2002. In a message sent out yesterday, Strictly Rhythm founder Mark Finkelstein said: "I have known and respected Seamus Haji since he first worked at Defected over a decade ago. He has the perfect ear and talent to creatively guide Strictly Rhythm into the future while staying true to its heritage and tradition."
