- The DFA mainstay is ready to release his first full-length.
Marcus Lambkin, AKA Shit Robot, will release his debut album this September on DFA Records.
Though he's just releasing his first full-length, Lambkin has been a member of the DFA family for over a decade. He first met James Murphy in the late '90s, and helped build the label's first studio from the ground up. (Literally. He's a carpenter.) Soon after, Lambkin and Murphy started DJing together at Plant Bar, an East Village nightspot Lambkin had recently co-founded. The pair spun every Friday under the name Shit Robot, mostly mixing up post-punk, disco and synth-pop, a blend of styles that would eventually define both Lambkin and the label's output.
For his first album, Lambkin collaborated with a number of his DFA cohorts, including Murphy, Juan MacLean and LCD Soundsystem's Nancy Whang. Other guest appearances come from Planningtorock, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, D.C. indie icon Ian Svenonious and Saheer Umar from House of House. Lambkin gets friendly with the mic as well, singing solo on the first two tracks and alongside Murphy on "Triumph," the album's closer.
