- The new LP sees DJ Stingray teaming up with Carl Craig, Kenny Dixon Jr. and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir.
Detroit collective Urban Tribe have just released a new LP, Program 1-12, via Kenny Dixon Jr's Mahogani Music.
Originally conceived as a solo project by Sherard Ingram, AKA DJ Stingray, Urban Tribe has attracted a rotating cast of collaborators over the years, including some of Detroit's most respected producers. Program 1-12 marks a return to the group's most illustrious lineup: Carl Craig, Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann) and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, all of whom appeared on Urban Tribe's first full-length, The Collapse Of Modern Culture.
In a recent interview with FACT, Ingram describes Program 1-12 as "a collage of experiences and sonic philosophies fused into one project." The album was recorded mostly at KDJ's "lab" in Detroit, and shows all four players trading off roles in the studio. Program 1-12 saw release on Monday in the UK and is set to hit record shops in Europe next week. Ingram has also mentioned plans for another LP this year with Heinrich Mueller (Drexciya, Arpanet, Dopplereffekt, etc.), but details on that release are still forthcoming.
