- Phonica are celebrating the release of the beatsmith's third album in London this week.
London-based beatsmith Paul White will release his latest album next month.
Paul White & The Purple Brain will be the producer's third album in less than a year, but it's a little different from his usual fare, comprising solely of samples from obscure Swedish psychedelic rock artist S.T. Mikael. It's not a particularly club-compatible release, with most tracks clocking in at under two minutes in length, but its woozy mix of sitars, guitars, synth squiggles and off-kilter beats should surely resonate with fans of White's previous output.
As with all of White's previous solo offerings, the release will be issued by the One-Handed Music imprint, and he'll have two of his labelmates on hand to perform at the record's launch party, which takes place at Plastic People this Thursday. Bullion is a similarly talented wonky and downtempo artist, while UK hip-hopper Tranquil (with whom White sometimes produces) will be there to perform a live PA. Label boss Alex Chase completes the One-Handed-heavy bill, but they've got a special guest in the form of Danny Breaks, who will eschew his usual drum & bass stylings to perform a rare instrumental hip-hop set.
