  • Cobblestone Jazz will celebrate the release of their Modern Deep Left Quartet album at Rex next weekend. When RA's William Rauscher noted in his review of Modern Deep Left Quartet that "Cobblestone explores the terrain of deep house through the eyes of a jazz improv group" he pretty much hit a summary of their ethos square on the head. Mathew Jonson, Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula have been traversing such terrains since their 5th Element EP was released through Itiswhatitis Recordings back in 2002, and asked long term friend and collaborator Colin de la Plante, AKA The Mole, to join them on this latest leg of the journey. The gig at Rex on April 23 will see all four of them once again link up (the quartet play live on occasion as The Modern Deep Left Quartet) although de la Plante is billed to appear separately as The Mole. Local DJ/producer Yakine has been gaining momentum recently via his releases for Supplement Facts and Adult Only, and will play a supporting role with a DJ set on the night.
