- The Berlin-based artist will release his third album this May.
Electronic funk and soul artist Snax will release his next album, Special Guest Star, this April on his own Random Records.
Since he moved to Berlin in 2001, Snax has made a splash in the house and techno scene with his unique style of sexualized, electronically enhanced soul music, which he terms "fist-funk." In addition to his own imprint, his records have seen release on labels like Mille Plateaux, Rebirth and Get Physical Music. For Special Guest Star, the American-born artist enlists a number of collaborators, including The Snackettes, Jules Etienne and fellow soul eccentric Jamie Lidell.
"I started putting the album together when I had a studio in Kreuzberg, in the same building where Mocky, Jamie, Planning To Rock and several others also
were recording," says Snax. "So it was a real creative, group feeling, which is exactly what I was looking for after recording alone for so long."
For the album's first music video, Snax focuses on his surroundings during the recording process. Featuring appearances by The Snackettes, Prix and Quarion among others, and directed by Snax himself, the clip for "Can't Be Bothered" was shot in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Ficken 3000, one of Berlin's most famous sex-friendly gay bars.
