  • At the end of this month, Ghostly International will release a new recording of In C, the modern classical composition by minimalist pioneer Terry Riley. Originally recorded in 1964, "In C" is a semi-aleatoric piece, meaning that some details of its performance are always left to chance. It consists of 53 musical "cells," each of which can be as short as one half of a beat or as long as 32 measures. Depending on how it is performed, the piece can vary in length between 20 minutes and several hours. It is considered one of the first examples of minimalist composition. Ghostly International's version of "In C" was performed by The Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble last November at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, and clocks in at just over an hour. It will be available exclusively via digital download. Ghostly International will release In C on April 27th, 2010.
