  • Pursuit Grooves will release her new mini-album later this spring, entitled Foxtrot Mannerisms. Real name Vanese Smith, the New Yorker has been pushing her hip-hop beats since 2006, putting out three full-lengths on her own What Rules Records label and also getting a track signed to Rush Hour's Beat Dimensions compilation. Red Bull Music Academy's Barcelona edition then beckoned, where Smith was able to share studio time with legendary Detroit-born guitarist Dennis Coffey amongst others, and the pair even finished a tune for the Academy's promo-only compilation series. The addition of Pursuit Grooves to the Tectonic roster marks quite a stylistic shift from the darkened dubstep that we're used to hearing from the label, and Foxtrot Mannerisms is sure to surprise quite a few of its ardent fans. The album flows through cosmic soul, smooth tropical house, and even a bit of hip-hop proper on "Pressure" and the dubstep-tinged "Start Somethin", with Smith herself contributing vocals throughout. Tracklist 01. Pressure 02. Start Somethin 03. Mister Softee 04. Shabaps 05. Whisper 06. Tweezers 07. Cosy Tectonic Recordings will release Foxtrot Mannerisms on April 5th, 2010.
