- Kompakt's newest production duo will release their debut record this spring.
Walls, a new electronic post-rock group on Kompakt, will release their self-titled debut this April.
The duo consists of Alessio Natalizia, AKA Banjo Or Freakout, and Sam Willis of allez-allez, a London-based event promoter, blog and DJ team. The pair first met last year when Allez Allez remixed Banjo Or Freakout's track "Mr. No," with Willis and Natalizia making the decision to team up after discovering a shared love for both electronic music and esoteric rock. Willis explains: "We're particularly influenced by artists such as Neu! and Harmonia—Michael Rother's guitar work, and Moebius and Roedelius's synth work really pushes boundaries yet remains melodic and euphoric. It's easy to make noisy and difficult music, what's harder, and feels natural to us is to make music that skates along the edges—melodic, but with a sense of sadness, hope and euphoria at the same time."
So far Walls only have one production credit to their name, a remix of The Field's "Leave It" on Yesterday and Today Remixes. Nonetheless, their self-titled debut boasts a well-honed sound, layering sprawling drones and shoegaze guitars over mild-mannered techno beats.
