  • Mille Plateaux to relaunch this spring image
  • Four years since its last release, quintessential electronic label Mille Plateaux has announced it will resume production in May 2010. The label has been defunct since 2006, but was recently acquired by music industry entrepreneur Marcus Gabler. Though many details are still forthcoming, Gabler has announced a number of plans for Mille Plateaux, including a new DVD of audiovisual art, digital re-releases of the label's old records, and perhaps most titillatingly, a fifth installment of Clicks_+_Cuts, Mille Plateux's widely praised compilation series. In the realm of avant-garde electronic music, there have been few labels more prolific than Mille Plateaux. The imprint was founded 1993, and released dozens of influential records over the course of the following decade, including albums by Gas, Donnacha Costello, Kid 606, Vladislav Delay and many more. Though its releases were often very experimental, Mille Plateaux's aesthetic was also notably diverse, covering everything from dub techno to sound art, plus a few obscure sub-genres like clickhop. The label was forced to close in 2004 when its parent company, Force Inc. Music Works went bankrupt. It was temporarily revived in 2006, but disappeared again after only two releases.
