  • Christian Prommer will release the second volume in his Drumlesson series this spring. The Munich-based drummer, DJ and producer originally sprung to fame in the electronic music scene as part of Fauna Flash and Trüby Trio with Rainer Trüby and Roland Appel, but it's only in the last few years that he's really emerged as a solo force, co-opting classic dance music tracks such as "Rej," "Beau Mot Plage," "Strings Of Life," "Plastic Dreams" and "Trans Europa Express" and transforming them into jazzy, piano-led workouts on 2008's Drumlesson Vol. 1. For the second installment, entitled Drumlesson Zwei, Prommer again teams up with guitarist Uwe Karpa, keyboard player Roberto Di Gioia, percussionist Ernst Ströer, bass guitarist Christian Diener and drummer Matteo Scrimali, but this time around, the recording process was based more around live sessions, with Prommer then taking the raw cuts into his studio for additional processing and editing. "Normally when I do my electronic music, everything is programmed and very controlled," he explains. "So for me, this was the best of both worlds – having the guys play really interesting stuff, and then working with it." Amongst the tracks being reinvented this time around are Stefan Goldmann's '06 club smash "Sleepy Hollow," Dennis Ferrer and Jerome Sydenham's "Sandcastles," and the downbeat electro of Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygène Part IV." Fans of Prommer's "Strings Of Life" interpretation should be glad to hear that there are more Detroit techno covers on Zwei, with Carl Craig's "Sandstorms" and Rolando's "Knights Of The Jaguar" both getting jazzed up. Of the latter, Christian explains, "We did two versions – part one I like to call the 'White Stripes of jazz' version because it’s really rocking, just drums and bass and not much more. The second part is more of a Balearic-goes-Middle Eastern dance anthem with a lot of prepared piano, guitar tracks and drum layers." Tracklist 01. Sandstorms 02. Groove La Chord 03. Sleepy Hollow 04. Acid Eiffel 05. Oxygène Part IV 06. Jaguar Pt 1 07. Jaguar Pt 2 08. Sueno Latino 09. High Noon 10. Sandcastles !K7 will release Christian Prommer's Drumlessons Zwei on April 19th, 2010.
