  • Tobias Duffner and Andre Naszada (aka Enning) will launch their Fauxpas Musik imprint later this month. The duo decided to get into the record label game not for any financial reward, but to try and share music that they're enthusiastic about with a like-minded audience. To prove a point, each of their 12-inches will be strictly limited, with just 350 copies of their first release set to be manufactured. The artist responsible for their debut single has gone under the name of Desolate, but we're informed by Tobi and Enning that the producer is someone who usually releases under his own name, but doesn't want to reveal himself just yet. Containing three tracks, the EP focuses on a shuffling broken house vibe, with plenty of atmospheric synth and piano work. We spoke to Tobias by e-mail to get more of a low down on the imprint.
Will Fauxpas be focusing on any particular type of music, or do you have quite a wide remit? Fauxpas Musik isn't really focusing on a particular kind of music. We just like to release the music we love from the many different arms of electronic music as well as to support our friends, so the music on the first release will be completely different to the second or the third release. Although the first one has this very smooth and slow, spherical dub touch, we have other releases that are set to be released which are clubbier tracks, or even raw techno. How did the idea to start the label come about? We want to express our love to electronic music as well as our love to the—as we see it—only medium, quality music should be released on... and that's vinyl! The idea behind starting a new label in these days was to release outstanding quality music on vinyl as strictly limited releases (fauxpas001 is limited to 350 pieces) without any represses. The records are handnumbered and thus collectors' and music lovers' items! What is the reasoning behind it being a vinyl-only label? The reason why we are not too keen about being a digital label is that through the increase of releases since the digital boom started, the quality has begun to lack more and more. People just don't really think hard about whether they should or should not release this certain track, so we miss the quality being played and listened to. We want to release music on vinyl that's worth being pressed! The medium should always express the value of the music on it. Another reason was to make it harder for "pirates" to find and load our tracks in the internet illegally. So maybe even the French phrase "faux pas" expresses the direction the music industry is going towards. Think of the rumours about 1210 manufacturing being stopped! Have you got anything set in stone for your next releases? fauxpas002 will be Mittekill's "Zum Spielplatz," with a club and dub mix by Goldwill. The slow remix can be listened to on our Myspace.
Fauxpas Musik will release Desolate's Heroic Death EP on January 25th, 2010.
