  • Leftfield's Paul Daley will play a rare DJ set at tomorrow night's Free The Loveranch fundraiser in London. The party is being held to raise money for John Minney, one of the original acid house kids who founded The Betty Ford Clinic parties, who has recently found himself in trouble with Hong Kong's authorities after being caught up in a suspected entrapment operation on Lamma Island. Minney, who has been living as part of a large community of ex-pats on the island for a number of years, could potentially be facing a long prison sentence, and his friends back home have decided to do all they can to get him the best legal aid possible for his trial in mid-January. Tomorrow's Free The Loveranch party will act as the main London fundraiser for Minney, and has seen a cast of his old acid house chums come out to spin some records at the city's Canal 125 club. Paul Daley has been in semi-retirement for the past few years, only playing a handful of gigs, so Leftfield fans may want to do their utmost to check him out behind the decks. Big Beat pin-up Jon Carter will revisit his acid house roots for the bash, while Billy Nasty, Brandon Block and an unannounced special guest will also play sets. While we don't know who that special guest is, we can tell you who it isn't: Andrew Weatherall. The renowned jock was keen to perform, but due to other commitments, he's instead mixed an exclusive CD to be given to a few select ticket holders on the evening.
