  • Monika Kruse's anti-racism event No Historical Backspin will be taking place in Leipzig next month. Originally slated for Berlin's Berghain, Kruse decided to move the event to Leipzig, after recent political shifts in the region. "The people in Sachsen re-elected the NPD (National Party) in August for the first time in the history of the BRD (Federal Republic of Germany), in a district/county parliament," she explained, "that's why we changed our plans and will go to Leipzig—the biggest city in Sachsen." Kruse founded No Historical Backspin in 2000, to make a statement against against racism and intolerance in Germany, and to also reject one-dimensional classifications of the techno, house and club scenes. Throughout No Historical Backspin's history, all DJs and clubs have provided their services and spaces for free, with proceeds going towards Amadeu Antonio, a foundation that supports community initiatives against neo-Nazi violence, racism and anti-Semitism. Artists like Pier Bucci, Boys Noize, Daniel Bell, Cassy, Jeremy P. Caufield, Tama Sumo and Gaiser have all donated their time to the cause for previous parties. This year's event, at Leipzig's Distillery club, will feature Minus poster boy Heartthrob, representing for the internationals, with notable German talent coming in the shape of Daniel Stefanik and Kruse herself. They'll be joined by local DJ Markus Welby, and Cocoon's Tobi Neumann, who released the following statement about his involvement:
I am part of "No Historical Backspin" as I think it is very important that we make people aware that we cannot accept any kind of right wing radicalism in our country anymore. I stand against all of the right wing ideas and all of the idiots that want to blame foreigners and immigrants for their personal miseries and lives. This is so close-minded, and these people are the worst of the worst that our country has to offer.
