  • Emptyset are set to release their first album via Caravan Recordings in October. Until this point the Emptyset project has been shrouded in mystery, with little information available about the Bristol-based duo that were responsible for the releases on Baked Goods' minimal techno imprint Future Days and Caravan. Now, it seems the duo are ready to lift the veil on their identities. The men responsible are Multiverse boss James Ginzberg (AKA Ginz) and Paul Purgas, who is associated with both the under_score party crew in Bristol, and the Bodyhammer night in London. Purgas also curated this year's We Can Elude Control compilation featuring Sleeparchive, Secondo, Regis and Scorn, while Ginzburg has recently been co-producing tracks with Bristolian bass sensation Joker. While the tracks on Emptyset's self-titled album may have a booming low-end, purist minimal techno is order of the day here, with their Myspace page citing "the classic releases of M-Plant, Sahko and Chain Reaction as well as more recent producers such as Alva Noto, Deathprod and Burial" as influences. Indeed, even their artist name is a reference to the work of Mika Vainio, seeing as an empty set can be denoted by the Ø symbol. Combining the rigid machine funk of their more dance floor-oriented tracks with avant-industrial workouts and restrained low tempo pieces, the album should be of interest to listeners with a penchant for classic minimal techno sounds. Tracklist 01. Aleph 02. Gate 1 03. Gate 2 04. Beyond 05. Gate 3 06. Completely Gone 07. Beyond 2 08. Gate 4 09. Awake 10. Over Caravan Recordings will release Emptyset on October 26th, 2009
