  • The Den & Centro have announced their latest set of weekend parties, including a performance from house music legend Frankie Knuckles. The New York-based producer will fly over to headline the Rockin' Heads party on Saturday 13th June, where he'll be joined by "retired" DJing stalwart Danny Rampling. Ed Banger's Vicarious Bliss and electro-house tykes Mumdance will also be present to contrast the smooth vibes of Knuckles with their edgy sounds, whilst ex-Hacienda DJ Guy Williams will be there to take you back to the first summer of love. House is also the general theme with this month's Saturday night line-ups, with Kerri Chandler making an appearance there this weekend. He's the only real big name playing at the Back To The Groove night, but if you're looking for a bigger and more varied party, Kings Of Tomorrow's Sandy Rivera will be headlining Centro next Saturday. Matthias Meyer and H.O.S.H. will bring their techier European sound to The Den, whilst lairy Ibiza fixture Brandon Block will make an appearance in the bar. Tickets for all three parties are available via RA Tickets. When we originally previewed the opening of the club, we were unable to get any comment from either the owners or the management, but we've now been able to get hold of The Den & Centro owner Lee Bennett to ask him a few questions about the venture.
What plans do you have for Centro? Well, firstly we are programming a whole selection of different nights with a selection of genres targeting all types of crowds. As we all well know, The End was something phenomenal, a brand built over the years which was designed for a niche audience, and consequently it became one of the worlds best known clubs. We at The Den & Centro are fully aware of this so understand and appreciate that we won’t and cannot be The End. However what we can bring is still something different for all types of clubbers. Our Saturday nights are gearing towards a house loving crowd with the likes of Sandy Rivera, Kerri Chandler and Frankie Knuckles all scheduled in. In mid-week we are going to be bringing the likes of Pete Doherty & Tim Burgess (Charletans) in to perform & play on our newly built in stage in The Centro Bar! Are you doing any in-house events, or will all the weekend nights at the club be run by other promoters? We are definitely looking at doing some in-house nights. In these early stages the venue will be more promoter-led, however later on throughout the year we are looking to run some of our own nights with some big headliners! Are there any plans to hold any events on weekdays? Yes, we have got an incredible amount going on throughout the week now in which I’m hoping to attract a whole variety of crowds down to the club, bringing you glam rock, rockabilly, punk and new wave, like Mick Jones from The Clash. On Monday nights we have a brand new night called Shine, which have taken over from where Trash and Durr left off, bringing you live bands & special guest DJs with a rock'n'roll twist. They’ll be bringing down the like of Pete Doherty who performing on their launch on 1st June and Carl Barat from Dirty Pretty Things. Wednesdays we have Lipstick & Lashes, which brings together fashion & rock'n’roll! Each night is themed with costumes & make-up artists based on different eras in music, from glam rock, to Britpop to the '60s or '80s! We are going to be hosting a comedy night on the last Thursday of every month, and every Friday we welcome back Popstarz who bring you indie, pop, and old skool rave! How will Centro differ from when it was The End? There have been a few tweaks and subtle changes have been implemented since it was The End. Jaglites Mick Scullion has improved and overhauled all the existing lighting and production in the venue, added new LED colour Pallets, two new club lasers and created a visually improved atmosphere, However the notorious sound system has remained un-tampered with so you can expect that same electrifying atmosphere Cyclon, the roadie for life, remains at the venue and will be keeping the same high standards of sound the venue is famous for. Is there a music policy for The Den & Centro? No, we are open to everything, but will be sticking to House however on a Saturday night. It is said that the opening is “temporary”. Do you have any ideas how long it will be open for? Well due to all the plans falling through for the reconstruction and the depressed property market, we are going to be around for a long time. We are definitely planning the next couple of New Years Eve parties! We endeavor to look after The End’s home and heir to the building with great love and pride, and hope we can still make it one of London’s best-loved clubbing sanctuaries!
