  • Organisers of the Bloc Weekend have confirmed yet another top-flight headliner for their March bash at Minehead's Butlins resort, and it's none other than the Aphex Twin himself. It's a rare English appearance for Richard D. James, and his only confirmed date for 2009 so far. His last English gig was at the most recent Bestival on the Isle Of Wight, where the volume was so low that some revellers who braved the mud to check him out weren't even aware that he was playing. With fans still reeling from the poor sound and strange atmosphere at his summer gig, his performance at Bloc is almost certain to attract quite a few hardcore followers looking for a bit of Aphex acid. This won't be your usual Aphex Twin gig, however, as he's set to collaborate with Austrian sound artist Florian Hecker at the festival. Hecker is best known for his bleak industrial soundscapes, but it's anyone's guess what the two have in store for March's performance. Hecker and James join luminaries such as Carl Craig, Robert Hood, Afrika Bambaataa, Egyptian Lover, Daniel Bell, Alexander Robotnick and Future Sound Of London at the family resort, in what's already looking to be 2009's choice electronic festival in the UK.
