| #3 / Thu, 05 Nov 09 06:51 no you don't need to but if you want to use 1 on 1 controlls (so no double/tripple controlls under one button) you need to.
but this is the same with faderfoxes, xone D series (except 3 & 4d)

I like my gear to line up properly and preferably be the same hight as my mixer. This may sound like a stupid requirement, but I find it quite annoying if a controller is sunk between my mixer and TT's and is giving me a hard time in properly reaching all the buttons.

And thats not stupid about the height thing. I like having stuff all the same height too. Although I notice with this its actually thin, but then there is a stand thing which raises it to standard mixer height. Does that come with it or do they charge you an extra 50 quid?

Looks like it will be retialing at $250 in the us, what you reckon for the UK then? £150 maybe? Can't seem to find any pricing yet.

| #13 / Fri, 13 Nov 09 10:33 Can anyone tell me, because this little beauty connects via USB directly to your laptop (or so I've been led to believe) does that mean I could control a 4 deck set-up through Traktor Scratch Pro using only a NI Audio 4 DJ soundcard and a pair of CDJs/controller discs + the Kontrol X1 connected to my laptop, thus not requiring the additional ins/outs the Audio 8 DJ offers?
Apologies if this is a daft question, I'm still working out what would be the most suitable digital DJ set up for me and this is a layout I've been considering..!

Posts / 450 RA Since / Aug 2007 Location / The Hague, Netherlands | #14 / Fri, 13 Nov 09 10:51 Well, in a way you could, but the X1 was designed with the use of an external mixer in mind. It does not offer you any control of the channel faders and eq's!!!

 |
| #15 / Fri, 13 Nov 09 10:57 I see! How would you go about connecting the unit to your mixer then? From the pictures I've seen it only offers a single USB out port..?

| #16 / Fri, 13 Nov 09 13:02 **** you connect your audiocard to the mixer and controll the decks in traktor on the NI controller
& if you want to do the 4 decks mixing with a external mixer you would need to have the audio 8dj.

| #17 / Fri, 13 Nov 09 13:55 Right! I know that to be the state of play when using CDJs and controller CDs and had originally assumed it would be the same with this controller, but then I saw a few images of it and the only socket visible on it is a USB port. I didn't think the Audio 8 accepted a USB connection does it? I've never seen one up close before so I wouldn't know myself... Or maybe the Kontrol X1 has more ins/outs that I just haven't seen yet!

Posts / 450 RA Since / Aug 2007 Location / The Hague, Netherlands | #18 / Sat, 14 Nov 09 22:02 Nope, the USB goes into your computer of course! It's just an alternative for requiring two cables, namely one midi cable and one power cable.
A midi controller controls what Traktor does, but has no relation to the sound card. You can look at it as a specialised mouse or keyboard.
