We definitely need a break from all the (great) 4/4 action from the last few weeks .... but this?

Granted these are some amazing atmospherics, but will anyone actually listen to the full 50!mins all the way through. (Maybe if they're on mescaline (which i'm currently not, unfortunately)) I suppose seeing the show live is the way to go,

Anyway don’t mean to bitch …. Just my thoughts.

Thanks RA.

LOL

Yep, needs some form of 50min visual to accompany this & I guess I would appreciate it more. On its own though...
Sleepinging Bedtime listening.

One for the anoraks.

Kinda feels like listening to 50mins of random street sounds in a city.
Absolutely not my thing but thanks anyway, cant hurt to broaden the horizon every now and then!

I can't tell you how happy I am about this! The NSI live at MUTEK was by far my highlight of the fest (at least, non-"dance" highlight; interestingly, Tobias solo was my top pick of dancefloor sets). Congrats to Resident Advisor for securing this, and thanks to NSI for giving up the goods!

As for the folks who don't get it, I could say something snarky, but instead I'd just encourage you to give it a try. There's more to life than oonce-oonce, you know. And WTF does "one for the anoraks" even mean?

agree w/ Mssr. Sherburne. I am 11 minutes in and if you were to give me the blind taste test I would have guess first MUTEK and second probably someone like the Noise Sound Institute.

Save the mix for a moment you get to yourself and not a morning commute or BBQ with your friends.

You know, sometimes i need a break from thumping beats so i listen and lose myself in some beautiful soundscapes, never heard of these guys but very impressed.

Glad Resident Advisor i still trying to broaden peoples horizons, i imagine 80% of Resident Advisor regulars wont like or understand it but if it just opens a couple of peoples eyes to other electronic forms of music it has done its job.

tracklist?

this is live. not a dj set.

no tracks...all live electronic experimentationings. however weird and exceedingly minimal they are. props to them for having the balls to do it in public! :S

i think Resident Advisor need to get trentemoller in to play an ambient soundscape set, the first 30mins of his EM is just like that! well deep and trippy! good interesting fun if ya on ya own, definetly not social music though.

I saw this live and really enjoyed it - up there in my 'highlights of Mutek'.

But, be interesting to see how it translates to home listening. There is something about being in the theater, loud volumes, bass pulsing along to the very appropriate visuals that creates an all around and very encompassing experience that may not translate that well to sitting at home and relaxing.

But, a bit of a smoke, a glass of wine and some dimmed lights may make this set a great one to unwind with at the end of a hard day.

An 808 + a good efx processor = endless fun! i particularly like the different layers of syncopation, very cool stuff.

I thought this live show was OK, but I preferred these Canadian guys called the Fun Years who played at the A/V show the night before. It'll be interesting to have a listen to it again though (any other sets from Mutek out there??). The nsi show was a welcome breather from the industrial, disjointed headfuck of the snd show right before it!

Hmmm, not my cup of tea, it sounds like the kind of thing designed to be playing in the background at an art installation while much chin stroking is taking place...

This was an amazing way to kick off a Monday morning at work. NSI's atmospherics made for a nice easing into the work day. It's amazing to listen to two guys work together live with no rehearsal. As someone mentioned earlier, the syncopation was very very interesting.

Great stuff RA! Keep it coming. Some of your older crowd still remember the days of proper ambient/trippy stuff like the Orb and some bits that Coldcut would do, and we love it!Headphones
